The Orphanage

The maps and plans for Project Haven are already on the books. Our vision is to have an orphanage compound which is comprised of separate dwellings where 10 children can share a "home" with their house-parents as a "family unit." We have already built a church, two houses and a three room classroom. These are the existing building as of right now.

100 acres at Kigaya village, on the eastern shores of Lake Victoria was donated for the orphanage site by my grandfather. It has been appropriately named Project Haven.

In 2004 a gift was donated to construct a well on the sight. I was there to over see that its construction. (The story) This was such a great relief for the children and the nearby villagers. Many kids' education has not been affected because of going further to collect water. On our facilities we now care for 48 orphans. We meet their needs of education, medical clothing and feeding. However, there are so many other children coming from poor families we educate for free and feed for the day. A lot of children need sponsorship. It costs $65 a month per child. To care for their education, medical and material needs.

Kigaya

We stopped taking in orphaned teenagers like in the past. The costs were too high especially for their college tuition. As of right now, we have one student at the Makerere University. Our plans and emphasis are focused on building more facilities for classrooms and houses. This will cut our costs so much and we will be able to do more for these kids. Right now our school needs so much improvement. We need chalkboards, desks, chairs, books etc.Equator sign

More volunteers are needed to join us to build more buildings. A guest house needs to be constructed as soon as possible. As you browse through our web, you will see that we ship clothing, food, tools, etc. We are planning on doing that very soon. (The story)

We have a few pastors we support. These men and their families are living almost in poverty. Yet they are doing a tremendous work. They need to be helped for carrying the burden that they willingly bear in pasturing and nurturing their countryman. Any amount contributed for their support is welcomed.

Other needs include those incurred in supporting those who are in administrative roles, parents, teachers and my family as I continue to travel to and fro to do this work. So there is someone for everyone! You may choose a child, a minister and his family, construction budget, shipping fees, brick making machine, or general contribution to be used as needed.

Our vision for spreading the gospel has not changed. But there is one lesson we have learned in doing this work. People don't care what you know, until they know you care. Jesus met the people at the point of their need. I have come to believe that religious faith is an intergral component of charity efforts.

Shipping departmentWhat are you doing on any given day serving God? He created us to bring Him glory. It is the plan of God to use every single one of us. We have a command to serve God when we become Christians. Jesus said in Mark 16:15. "Go ye into the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature." In fellowshipping together and working together, this would produce a true practical love in this New Ecumenism. After we have caught the vision of what He wants us to do, to maintain the unity in the body of Christ in the bond of peace and to carry out Christians' activities which bring the body of Christ in unity through love by the same conformity. Eph. 4:4

The body of Christ should be an energetic move which is not controlled by any organization but ready to move at anytime to serve God. We all have to work about the bringing of God's people together in the body of Christ, irrespective of their ethnical or religious backgrounds. This is so true in the work we do, because we have many orphans whose parents were Muslims.

"Love one another, as I have loved you, so that the world may know that you are truly my disciples." John 13:34-35. True love and participation begins at the root which is the foundation of the body of Christ with the laymen right up to the clergy. This is based on prayer, love, and faith in Jesus Christ. For Jesus said, "The harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few. Pray therefore that the Lord may send the laborers into the fields."
